When the US Government introduced the newly redesigned $5 bill, the old $5 bills were slated for withdrawal from circulation.

Their subsequent destruction assured their swift disappearance. this colelction brings together one of the last old $5 ills plus one of the first new $5 bills.

The new $5 bill looks dramatically different and is the first major design change for this denomination since 1928. the portrait of Lincoln is larger and off-center, the lettering clearer, the designs are less cluttered and such items as serial numbers and seals have been repositioned. A number of high-tech anit-counterfeiting devices such as the watermark and fine-line printing patterns have been added.
