The Peace Dollar was first minted in 1921 to commemorate the end of World War I and the peace that followed. It is the first and only coin to display the word "peace." The coin features a portrait of "Lady Liberty" wearing a crown on the obverse. An eagle appears is on the reverse, standing atop a rock with the word "peace" emblazoned on it. The eagle is clutching the olive branch, an internationally recognized symbol for peace. The Peace Dollar was last minted in 1935, at the height of the great depression.
