The Widows Mite were originally minted between 103 and 76 BC! The Widows Mite is a crudely made coin that is smaller than a dime. The Bible relates the story of the widow's mite in the book of Mark, verses 12:41-44, in which Jesus observed people giving money to the treasury and noted that a poor widow who gave two small bronze coins, known as mites, was more generous than the rich men who gave more valuable coins, because she gave all that she possessed, while they gave only small portion of what they had.
The Shekel of Tyre is a large silver coin and is slightly smaller than a Quarter and bears the portrait of the Greek God Melqarth. This Shekel was the only coin accepted at the Jerusalem temple. It is commonly accepted that the 30 pieces of silver given as a bribe to Judas in the New Testament must have been Shekels!
